Texas State's Commitment
To help students get the most out of college, succeed in their academics, and expand their horizons, Texas State Housing Policy requires all students under the age of 20 (by September 1 for fall admission or January 1 for spring admission) with less than 30 credit hours to live in on-campus housing.
Students who have graduated high school within 12 months of attending college, regardless of age or credit hours, must live on campus.
We have this policy because research consistently shows that students who live on campus get better grades, make more friends, and have an overall better college experience than those who do not.
Housing Contracts
As soon as your student has received their acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions they will be able to submit the housing contract online at the Texas State StarRez Housing Portal. The sooner they submit the contract, the better chances they have for getting their top choice of hall. There is a $300 pre-payment during the contract process (unless deferred from Admissions)—it will become a credit once bills are calculated.
Settling In
Once your student's contract is completed and you've made a pre-payment, they are placed into a group listed on the housing timeline. Each group will be assigned a date to select a roommate and a later date to select their residence hall. During this time your student will choose a dining plan they would like—visit Chartwells for information on the different plans offered. With 23 university-wide, on-campus living options and many unique housing styles, there is sure to be a fit for them.
