Important Updates about Your Student’s Financial Aid

Dear Texas State University Parents,

As we head into Spring Break, we hope that the semester is going well for your student. As a part of our commitment to keeping you as informed as possible, we have an important update to share.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

We understand that the Federal Government’s ongoing delays in the FAFSA process is causing concern and uncertainty about the upcoming academic year. Please know we are ready to support you and your student every step of the way.

Congress enacted the FAFSA Simplification Act with the intent to make the financial aid application process easier for students. These changes have led to delays, outside of Texas State University’s control, and we are aware that many students and families are being impacted.

Here are specific steps we're taking to support the Bobcat community through this process:

  • We extended the Financial Aid Priority Deadline, which also applies to the Bobcat Promise, to April 15.
  • We extended the deadline for college choice and assured and merit scholarship awards to June 1.
  • We encourage you and your student to register early to attend New Student Orientation to get a feel for life as a Bobcat. If your student’s plans change and they decide TXST isn't their path, submit a refund request before June 1 and we'll refund the orientation fee in full.
  • Filling out housing contracts is an important first step and should be completed early. We extended our full refund deadline for housing contracts to June 1.
  • We continue to work closely with academic departments and finance teams to speed up the competitive scholarship awarding process.
  • We will keep you informed as information is released from the Federal Government. Please continue to check our website, social media, and emails for all the latest news and updates.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to assist you and your student and will continue to provide clarity and support as we receive more information. Despite these external challenges, we are committed to making your student’s journey to and through Texas State University as smooth as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
