The FAFSA Simplification Act represents a significant overhaul of the processes and systems used to offer federal student aid starting with the 2024-2025 academic year. Because of the changes being made, FAFSA availability has been delayed until December 2023. An exact date has not yet been announced.
The changes to the FAFSA will provide a more streamlined application process and expanded eligibility for student aid. They will also require students and those providing financial information on their FAFSA to create individual accounts on the studentaid.gov website. If your student will file a FAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year, you are encouraged create your accounts in advance.
